Chapter 1: Tracking symptoms and health concerns
I wish we'd had was some sort of map for what to expect and when, you know. When we were looking after our dad at home, his doctor and the nurses were amazing, but they can only be there so much. It was really hard at times when we just didn’t know what to do.
The person you are caring for will likely have symptoms related to their disease or health condition. These can be emotional, behavioural, or physical concerns. They may be related to side effects from medications, treatments, or the person’s illness. As a caregiver, you can help healthcare providers to help the person by identifying concerns and sharing them. Caregivers provide an essential bridge of information between healthcare providers and people receiving care at home.
