Chapter 3: Help with mobility and movement

Introduction

Nobody wanted to acknowledge it (especially my husband), but as my husband got weaker, he started to rely more and more on me for simple movements. The kids had always seen their dad as such a strong man who could take on anything.

As a caregiver, you may need to assist someone with walking, moving in their bed, or moving from their bed to a chair. You may also need to move a person who is ill to help prevent pressure sores, especially when the person does not move as much as they used to.

This chapter introduces some safe ways to help you transfer or move the person who is ill. Using these methods can help the person stay as comfortable as possible, and can help decrease the likelihood of injury for you and the person who is ill.
