Module 2
Chapter 3: Common experiences
Small things trigger grief
I've been there
When I turn on the television, all I see is people who are sick, people who are dying, messages about foundations wanting money to fight this illness or that. I can't stand it.
Everyday experiences - such as hearing a favourite song or smelling a loved one's clothes - can cause a flood of deep grief.
Some people are suddenly struck by all the news stories about cancer and death. Others have trouble going near a hospital.
Events, places, people, and objects can unexpectedly bring strong feelings to the surface. It is helpful to remember that this is common.
