Notifying others of the death
Thank goodness for friends – Jamil kept me organized. He
helped me make a list of who needed to be contacted, and then we decided who I
should call myself, and he offered to call the rest. It just made the task easier
for me.
Whom to notify about a death
Family and friends soon hear of the death of someone close to them, but others may also need to be told. Click the arrows to view some of the people this might include.
The person’s employer, personal pension plan (if relevant), banks, and insurance companies (if relevant)
Healthcare provider(s) including dentist, healthcare clinics, and specialists
Spiritual advisers or leaders, if relevant
Any organizations or clubs the person was a member of
Veterans Affairs Canada, Canada Pension Plan, or provincial social services departments (if they are involved in paying for funeral expenses)
You may want to ask friends or family members to help you tell other friends and family members.
