Chapter 4: Conversations at the end of life

When the person is asleep or unconscious

Even when the dying person is no longer awake, you can still provide support and comfort by sitting at the bedside in silence, or by quietly reminiscing about shared memories. Gently holding hands and speaking softly can be nurturing and soothing. The dying person may be able to hear your voice and feel your hand until the moment of death. You can reassure them that they do not have to hold on and they have your permission to die.
