Chapter 1: What did this relationship mean to me?


Key ideas

  • Relationships are complex and the person who died might have been many things to you.

  • Your relationship with the person who died can influence how you grieve. For example, because a relationship was short does not mean grief is less intense. Nor is grief limited to close family. You may grieve the loss of a co-worker, boss, neighbour or teacher.

  • Difficult relationships often cause grief that is more challenging to work through.
