Do I need more help and where do I find it?

Introduction

Each grief experience is unique. While some people are able to navigate their grief, others become “stuck.” Their distress persists, their grief becomes prolonged and they have a hard time moving forward. Some people feel that they, or a part of them, died together with the person they loved. Others feel their life is standing still. A few begin to wonder if what they are feeling is depression.

Long-term grief and depression are very different, and each requires a different response. Feeling you are not moving forward could be due to decisions you are making. If your choices are not helping you return to a full and satisfying life, you may feel "stuck."

This chapter will help you recognize if you need help to cope with your grief and where to find that assistance.
